Seeking Connections:

< Back to Home

Untitled

These pieces explore the tension between isolation and connection. An organic central form gives rise to elongated, looping lines that extend outward, as if probing or searching. These tendril-like structures reach into the surrounding space, each ending in a sphere—suggestive of eyes (attention) or perhaps individual entities, each holding their own presence, their own sense of curiosity, longing, and unspoken desire. The energetic growth of these lines, with their delicate yet hesitant curvature, captures a yearning for connection that exists alongside a simultaneous desire for separation.

Set against a backdrop of graph paper or ‘lines,’ the pieces introduce a deliberate contrast between the organic and the structured. The grid-like background serves as a metaphor for the rigid frameworks that shape our lives—structured and confining, yet devoid of the warmth that true connection brings. Within this framework, the organic shapes sit in, on, and through the lines, representing the tension between our need for order and the fluid, often chaotic nature of human relationships.

Created during moments of personal reflection amidst familiar and unfamiliar faces, these works attempt to capture the feeling of alienation in a crowd—of being an individual entity, yet subtly intertwined with those around. On a broader scale, they reflect societal dynamics, where people often navigate systems that are designed to organize and categorize but may inadvertently create distance. The spheres at the ends of the lines mirror the way we seek out others in a networked yet isolating world, each interaction holding the potential to bridge a gap or deepen the divide. As we embark on the AI revolution, understanding our ‘human capacity’ for connection is perhaps now more than ever, an imperative.

As you explore these works, consider your own experiences of seeking connection within the structured spaces of your life—the invisible threads that bind us, and the quiet, tentative bonds that emerge even in the most unexpected places. Ultimately, these pieces are an invitation to reflect on the delicate balance between our desire for connection and the structures that define us—asking where, through or despite the lines, we might find a sense of belonging.
